The J-Pillow Travel Pillow is perhaps the most unique travel pillow that I’ve tried in recent memory, and I mean that in the best possible sense.
Designed by a former flight attendant and winner of the 2013 “British Invention of the Year” award, it’s essentially an “upgraded” travel pillow.
Instead of the traditional U shape that is utilized by most around-the-neck travel pillows, the J-Pillow employs a three-pronged design meant to afford maximum head and neck support, while also propping up the chin to prevent your head from nodding off uncomfortable.
The J-Pillow’s goal is to simulate “laying down” sleep while sitting upright, and I have to say that it does an excellent job!
I was very impressed by the construction of the J-Pillow Travel Pillow.
It’s an extremely high-quality travel pillow, from the luxuriously plush pillow cover to the “3D” polyester fiber filling on the inside.
I absolutely love the plush material J Pillow chose for the outer cover. It strikes the perfect balance between comfort and air circulation – I tend to get quite sweaty when using a travel pillow that’ s constantly around my neck, but that just doesn’t happen when I go with the J Pillow.
The stitching is expertly done, and I found no loose or otherwise sub par stitches.
The J-pillow responded quite well to my impromptu stress test of trying my hardest to rip it apart, with absolutely no give in the seams and no damage whatsoever to the pillow as a whole.
In other words, it’s a very durable pillow that you can expect quite a long life from.
As is standard for most premium travel pillows, the J-Pillow comes equipped with a button clasp snap loop that can be used to attach it to luggage or to yourself if you want to!
I was especially taken with the pillow’s polyester fiber filling, which is unusual for me.
I’m not typically a big fan of the polyester fiber fill , but it works well with the unique design of the J pillow. I think memory foam would defeat the purpose of the pillow’s interesting shape, so the manufacturers definitely made the right call going with polyester.
It makes the pillow firm without being too firm, but allows enough give for it to contour nicely to one’s head and neck.
While you can’t always compress polyester as easily or as completely as memory foam, you can still compress the J Pillow into a small “ball” quite easily. It’s really perfect for traveling, as you can see in the picture below:

I was also pleased to find that the entire pillow is machine-washable as per the manufacturers instructions – It’s hard to find a pillow that you can literally just chuck into the washing machine.
Usually you have to remove the cover and wash the parts separately, or you’ll find your not supposed to wash the foam insert. Not the case with the J pillow, and I have to say it’s made my life a whole lot easier!
I’m a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to traveling so it’s awesome that I can just pop the whole pillow in for a wash cycle whenever I get back home.
- The J-pillow works amazingly well with over 12,000 GENUINE product reviews worldwide on Amazon.
- WINNER OF THE BRITISH INVENTION OF THE YEAR 2013 and patented/pending worldwide
- A "MUST HAVE" FOR TRAVEL - this pillow actually helps you get some sleep on cramped planes, trains, buses or cars. Also perfect for relaxing at home, whether on the couch or reading in bed. Great for sleeping upright in bed too. Please note that our pillow is especially effective when used in the window seat of a plane and less so when used in the middle or aisle seats but still better then regular travel pillows.
The J-Pillow Travel Pillow makes use of an interesting three-pronged design, which is meant to support the head, neck, and chin all at once.
I was a bit skeptical at first, but after giving it a try I can honestly say that I love the design.
The top two prongs act as a type of U shape that cradles the head, while the bottom prong contours to the neck and comfortably props up the chin to prevent the head from nodding or drooping while asleep.
The creator claims: “In a nutshell, the J-pillow provides you with the ultimate comfort and support,” and I would have to agree wholeheartedly.
You can also fold the pillow in numerous different ways, provided you not only with head support but also with superb arm support or even lumbar support as needed.
As an added bonus, the J-Pillow Travel Pillow is available in three vibrant colors: Blue, Red, and Leopard print.
In a world of uniform travel accessories, it’s refreshing and quite satisfying to be able to put some personality into your travel pillow.
The only (extremely minor) gripe I have with the pillow is that if you want to switch what side you’re tilting your head towards mid trip, some maneuvering and re-positioning of the pillow is required.
This is an extremely small price to pay, though, for the superior comfort and support that the J-Pillow offers.
At the time of writing this review, the J-Pillow Travel Pillow is available on Amazon here.
While the pricing range may be a bit higher than the typical travel pillow, I would say that it’s worth every penny.
With the J-Pillow, you truly are paying for a premium experience: high quality construction that will last, along with a well-researched and well-implement form factor that delivers maximum comfort and support.
In the time that I’ve had the J-Pillow Travel Pillow, I’ve had a hard time putting it down.
I initially tried it out on both a long flight and various long car rides, and each time I fell asleep quickly and woke up feeling energized and ache-free.
Since then, I’ve begun using the pillow in my day-to-day life, and it’s become much more than just a travel pillow for me.
It’s perfect for preventing stress to the neck while watching TV, reading, or just lounging around.
While I can’t speak to this personally, the J-Pillow does claim being well-suited for those recovering from operations or suffering from medical conditions that require upright slumber as well.
One Year Update (Nov 2016)
I’ve now owned and (frequently) used this awesome pillow for more a year and four months or so.
I have to say, I’ve never been this enamored with something as boring as a travel pillow! It’s help up remarkably well over the past year, and I haven’t been easy on it. I use it all the time when I’m at home, and I bring it on most of my trips as well. I also wash it after each and every trip – I’ve washed it upwards of 15 times in the past year or so, and it’s as soft and comfortable as it was the day I got it.
If you’re on the fence about shelling out for a premium travel pillow, this is the one that will change your mind :).
Bottom Line: The J-Pillow Travel Pillow is an unorthodox take on the traditional travel pillow, and is excellent in every sense of the word. If you want to spend a few extra dollars to ensure a premium quality resting experience while traveling, look no further than the J-Pillow Travel Pillow.
